Very busy, and they don't have the usual free city trails that you get elsewhere. There are clearly lots of tours to be had, but at a price. It was all a bit money grabbing and commercialised, but I suppose that's Oxford for you. It was the middle of summer, so they were probably a bit overwhelmed with all the tourist groups. The hop on/off bus tour was very good. Tickets were £15 each, but you could go on it for as long as you wanted, and there was a running commentary (using free earphones). We went round the whole tour twice.

The university and college tour was excellent with a really insteresting and knowledgeable guide, Rob Walkers. The Harry Potter highlight tour was disappointing. The guide was stressed and confuse, spent 30% of time on HP and 70% about the university and college. She was not an expert of HP with little anecdotes you can expect. Kids were totally bored. We saw only 2 places, the cluster and the divinity school. A bit expensive for this tour.

Oxford Walking Tours

We had a great time in Oxford. Our tour guide was wonderful. We learned so much about the history and culture of this city.

Went on a walking tour in March 2018 with Stuart. It was a great tour with excellent pacing and highly informative! Our guide was funny and knowledgeable and if you don't know Oxford well already, a guided tour is absolutely essential to figure it out, and I couldn't recommend this one more!

Just brilliant. I hired an entire boat for work and we had a wonderful afternoon. We were well looked after and I was very impressed by the price. I would highly recommend.

Fantastic experience! Great guys and lovely welcome. Casper our friendly driver of boat was fab, happy, chatty and good laugh. Would highly recommend a private boat trip, great for any celebration or get together.

This was a lovely experience from beginning to end. We are a family of four and took the Thames picnic cruise. Beautiful scenery and a lovely boat and captain. The welcome at the embarkation point was very professional and warm and the pub stop very welcome and interesting. Many thanks for a wonderful outing.

Excellent guided cruise tour from Chris very informative shame about the weather as it poured down but all in all great time , its a must do ! thank you Chris from Karen and Sally

STA Travel

36 George St, Oxford OX1 2BJ, UK – 01865 236281

Booked an amazing trip with one of their travel experts, Joe recently. His knowledge of products and services is second to none and he manages to get the best deals available. He persuaded me to book an organised trip through STA and I must say that his suggestion was totally the right way forward. An amazingly kind man. Would definitely bookwithJoe again.

I tried them for the first time and they were great. I went in with a flight I'd chosen after a long time looking online and she suggested a cheaper flight with an airline I wouldn't have considered. She had used them several times before and could vouch that they were good.

Local Parks & Gardens

Manzil Way Gardens

Cowley Rd, Oxford OX4 1YH, UK – 01865 252240

I used to take my kids here when they were tiny. It could be a bit cleaner.

Restore , a charity, run these delightful gardens and tea shop. Plants and hand made crafts for sale and places to sit and enjoy nature.

Christ Church Meadow

St. Aldates, Oxford OX1 1DP, UK – 01865 276150

The church it’s beautiful, all the rooms and the corridors are great and well treated. The staff it’s very helpful and friendly, they give you information if you ask, always with a smile on the face! For an Harry Potter’s lover it’s an amazing experience! The shop it’s very full and not too expensive. The only problem is that the church opens at two o'clock and then, if you have not booked before, you have to get around one, which, under the sun, is not really comfortable.

Christ Church Meadow is a beautiful, huge and green area where people can do and see many things as the magnificent Meadow Building, the River Thames and the River Cherwell that surround the meadow, the Jubilee Bridge, and also the Merton College with its truly elegant gardens.

Hinksey Park

Abingdon Rd, Oxford OX1 4PZ, UK – 01865 249811

I take my kids to this park whenever I get a chance. There is a car park right next to the park which isn't too expensive. In summer time there is a small splash park for kids for free. There is also an open swimming pool with warm water. There is a big area next to it with beach seats to get some sun tan too! I would definitely recommend visiting this place.

Great place for my 2 year old. Splash park and a decent playground. Not much more needed to keep him busy for a few hours

Great website!. Click below to find gardens open during the year around Oxford or Oxfordshire. There are photos and lots of detail about the garden.
The Oxford Townhouse

88-90 Abingdon Rd, Oxford OX1 4PX, UK – 01865 511122

I love this hotel, it is my go to stay in Oxford. the prices are reasonable and it is not far from town. This is a converted town house as the name suggests. Some of the rooms are on the main road however this didn't keep me awake. Inside it is great and the staff are amazing. the rooms have free drinks, local cookies and snacks, including chilled drinks in the fridge. The included breakfast which is fabulous with lots of choice, I have had most things on the menu and not been disappointed in any! the full English is amazing and locally sourced produce, the porridge comes with different sauces all lovely, and there is yogurt, pasties and fruit to name but a few. This place could not come any more highly recommended.

Lovely stay, the staff were very friendly and the room and bathroom were very good. The breakfast was excellent, we really enjoyed our time.
